One of my favorite aspects of being a wedding photographer is the connections my camera brings me. Being invited in to photograph a sacred ceremony and celebrate with my couples' friends and families is what fills my cup and keeps me going. Running a small business can be challenging, I'm incredibly grateful for the communities I'm a part of that have shown me support and acceptance as I've navigated the ups and downs of freelancing. In this blog, I'm highlighting some features and publications I've proudly been connected with over the past year.
Goldylight Magazine
"Goldylight is, at its heart, a haven for your work and work that will inspire you. A place for you to be an artist, not a wedding vendor in a byline. A publication for your imperfect, organic, once-in-a-lifetime film shots. Every single photo that you see on this site, including headshots, was taken on film." - Goldylight Magazine, About
I'm so excited to share Mallory & Taylor's OBX wedding was featured in Goldylight.
Goldylight magazine is exactly what we need in the wedding industry - a publication celebrating wedding documentation as a way to make art and take risks without replicating the same shot list every weekend. Thank you so much, Goldylight!
Canvas Rebel
Canvas Rebel's mission "is to create a space for artists, creatives and entrepreneurs to be able to learn from their peers through the magic and power of storytelling." - Canvas Rebel, About
In this article, I talk to Canvas Rebel about how I value photography as a way to connect, where my passion for photography began, and lessons I've learned along my journey.
Peerspace
"Peerspace opens doors to rentable spaces in cities around the world, from photo studios and meeting rooms, to backyards and bars. Our peer-owned global network of spaces allows guests to hold personal and professional events in unique locations, while hosts earn additional income simply by opening their doors." - Peerspace, About

Peerspace was amazing enough to feature me alongside other local photographers on their blogpost "The 11 Best Wedding Photographers in Richmond, Virginia (2024)."
"If you’re looking for Richmond wedding photographers who shoot in a variety of styles, then Jesslyn McCartney may be your girl. She brings the past and the present together beautifully in her work, using both modern digital cameras as well as film photography and even Polaroids as she documents your big day. The end result? You get a treasure trove of absolutely charming and timeless images that capture your love in a cinematic style."
Redfin
"We constantly strive to build a company that reflects the world around us, based on our conviction that pursuing and developing talent of all types is the only way for a business to thrive over the long haul." - Redfin, Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Redfin reached out to me as a local business owner looking for recommendations on the best things to do in RVA. I of course am completely in love with my city and shared my favorite spots for their blog!
“With rotating exhibits, free admission, and a huge lawn for picnics, the VMFA is a perfect date spot,” says Jesslyn McCartney, a local wedding and family photographer in Richmond. “The art is extended to the outdoor areas, which are dog friendly and welcoming for all. Located in the heart of the museum district, the VMFA is host to weddings and other community events.” - Redfin, Top 21 Things to Do in Richmond, VA: Activities, Attractions, Outdoors, and More
